A reading of the thirteenth-century tale “Saint Martin’s Four Wishes” (Les Quatre souhaits de Saint Martin), which argues that this Old French fabliau, like many others, drew from a variety of sources not only to entertain, but also to critique gender roles and to highlight the disparities between religious belief and practice.
Refreshments provided. All are welcome.
