What If Poetry Could Make You Immortal? Performance and Ritual in the Vedas

The Department of the Classics presents the Edmands-Merrill Lecture featuring Dr. Caley Smith, Visiting Assistant Professor of Religion, Young Harris College.  "What If Poetry Could Make You Immortal? Performance and Ritual in the Vedas".  Smith will analyze the active (re-)performance of the Sanskrit Vedas as a technology of immortality in ancient Indian thought.  Lunch provided before the lecture in the Keck Lounge, terrace level, Lawrence Hall from 12:30-1:00 PM.
