About this Event
13 Oak Dr., Hamilton, NY 13346
The Colgate University Orchestra, Marietta Cheng, Conductor will perform Tchaikovsky’s gorgeous Piano Concerto No. 1 in B Flat Minor, Op. 23 to begin the concert. The composer is celebrated for his enchanting ballet music: the Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty and this piano concerto is also well known both for its passion and drama. The soloist is Chelsea Guo, Winner of the Young Artists Competition, who has attracted international attention as a dual artist, both a pianist and a soprano. She was also one of “Classic FM’s Rising Stars: 30 Brilliant Musicians We’re Celebrating in 2022”.
On the second half of the program will be Dvorak’s majestic Symphony No. 6 in D Major, Op. 60. The Dvorak luxuriates in the beauties of Nature; it is radiant and an idyll. However, the third movement scherzo breaks into this pastorale charm with an energetic Czech dance, a furiant. In 1880, Dvorak merged Czech elements with the German/Austrian musical tradition. He became Brahms and Beethoven with a Czech accent.
The concert is on Sunday, November 12, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. in the Colgate Memorial Chapel. The concert is free and the public is invited. The concert will also be livestreamed at: livestream.com/colgateuniversity
