Tempestry: The Art of Climate Data
Friday, May 15, 2026 9:30am to 4:30pm
About this Event
The Colgate Tempestry Project represents a year-long collaboration between Entrepreneurship and Innovation, the Environmental Studies Program, the Residential Commons, University Museums, and the Center for Women’s Studies, as well as over 30 crafters from among Colgate's student body, faculty, staff, and alumni. The exhibition will feature crocheted and knitted representations of local climate data, or "tempestries," from 1913 to present.
This exhibition represents part of a broader initiative developed by the Tempestry Project, founded by Asy Connelly and Emily McNeil. “One of the ongoing problems inherent in discussions about climate change is the vast scale of the conversation. The Tempestry Project’s goal is to scale this down into something that is accurate, tangible, relatable, and beautiful. By blending fiber art with temperature data, Tempestries (a portmanteau of ‘temperature tapestries’) create a bridge between global climate and our own personal experiences.”
