Title: The Original Co-eds: The Hamilton Female Seminary and Women at Colgate, 1855 - 1895
Brief Description: We know that long before formal coeducation in 1970, women attended classes at Colgate. Yet the de facto women's coordinate college on Broad Street has largely been forgotten. This talk re-frames the parameters of coeducation at Colgate, and begins to situate the "Fem Sem" in dialogue with 19th-century women's higher education in the U.S.
Next Lunch will be on March 21st with Professor Meg Blume-Kohout!
