What did the past smell like? Join historian Melanie Kiechle ‘03 for a romp through the fresh air and foul odors of nineteenth-century cities, when people believed that odors affected health. From nosegays and window boxes to smelling committees and stench maps, we’ll learn how Americans fashioned their cities and homes—and consider which of their actions might be worth trying again now that we live with an airborne disease.
