All the Beauty and the Bloodshed (dir. Laura Poitras, 2022, 122 min)

With Editor Amy Foote in person!

This documentary traces the life and career of famed artist Nan Golden, namely her protests against the Sackler family and their company Purdue Pharma, manufacturer of OxyContin. This was a deeply personal crusade: Goldin herself became addicted to the drug after being described, and narrowly avoided overdosing. But it was also political: art institutions around the world have accepted millions of dollars from the family, prompting public outcries and demonstrations at the Met, Guggenheim, and Louvre. The result is an enthralling work that connects tragedy, activism, and artistic expression that has garnered acclaim and awards at Venice, the New York Film Festival, and the Academy Awards, among others.

This event is co-sponsored by Museum Studies.
