‘Qué horror verlo’: Perceiving Tamar in 2 Samuel 13 and María Rosa de Gálvez
Research and Pegagogy: Chloe Blackshear, visiting assistant professor of religion and Jewish studies, will discuss research on Gálvez's Amnón (1804), a protofeminist adaptation of the so-called "Rape of Tamar" in the Hebrew Bible. How does this play challenge notions of biblical feminism and biblical retelling, and how might this textual "conversation" help students grapple with ideas about canonicity, authority, and gender-based violence? Contact Beth MacKinnon, bmackinnon@colgate.edu or (315) 228-7276 for streaming details.
