NASC Colloquium: Optimizing Well-being Through Close Relationships
Prof. Cheryl Carmichael, Department of Psychology, Brooklyn College, will speak. High quality close relationships are crucial to health and happiness. A cornerstone of high quality close relationships is the perception that relationship partners are responsive, meaning they demonstrate understanding, validation, and care for core aspects of the self. In this talk I will describe my research on ways in which responsiveness can be conveyed in two everyday behaviors – affectionate touch and text messaging – and how these responsive behaviors are associated with positive personal and relational outcomes. Reception to follow.
