Migrant Domestic Workers and the Politics of Citizenship

Professor Sharon Yam (University of Kentucky) will examine the court case surrounding the quest of migrant domestic workers for permanent residency in Hong Kong, and the subsequent rhetorical responses it sparked among workers and advocates. Specifically, acts of storytelling are often more effective in cultivating coalitions and critical empathy across difference than state-sanctioned citizenship discourse.
