Join GHI in welcoming Dr. Raul Favela, Chair of the Autonomous University of Chihuahua Medical School’s Department of Reconstructive Surgery. Dr. Favela is recognized throughout Mexico and beyond for his pro-bono reconstructive surgery among the indigenous population in the Sierra Tarahumara region of Chihuahua, MX. He will address the issue of what he sees as MDs’ and public health officials’ moral obligation to deliver healthcare to the poor and isolated, to pro-bono work in the medical field, and to the varied educational pathways to the health-care professions. This past January Dr. Favela was the Mexican host for the highly successful GHI extended study trip to the borderlands, including the Sierra Tarahumara region of Chihuahua, MX. He will be discussing the initial plans for the second of what might well become an annual GHI January trip to the indigenous Tarahumara region of Chihuahua, MX.
