Longyear Museum of Anthropology Exhibition

Imagining Indigeneity in a Global Future

February 10- May 21, 2023

This exhibition, curated by Longyear Curatorial Intern Justice Wysinger ‘23, highlights case studies on material culture and knowledge from different Indigenous communities worldwide. Several issues, including globalization, environmental degradation, water pollution, and resource extraction, are linked to the negative impacts on these cultural practices. At the same time, they ignore and undermine Indigenous ways of knowing and practicing in their environment. Wysinger highlights BIPOC faculty in the Colgate community and highlights four books that inspired the exhibit content, including recent community reads How Beautiful We Were and Braiding Sweetgrass. This exhibition features collections from the Longyear Museum of Anthropology, interviews, and loans from community members.
