Living Writers guest: John Banville

John Banville’s novel The Sea won the 2005 Booker Award was praised by The Telegraph for its “fastidious wit and exquisite style.” Compared often to Proust and Nabokov, Mr. Banville is the author of 17 other novels, including Ancient Light, The Book of Evidence, and Time Pieces: A Memoir of Dublin. Among his many awards and honors are The Guardian Fiction Prize, the Franz Kafka Prize, and the Austrian State Prize for European Literature. His latest novel, Mrs. Osmond, forms a sequel to Henry James’ Portrait of a Lady and was described in The New York Times as “a supreme feat of scholarship.” Mr. Banville lives in Dublin.
