“Iconicity: When Form Carries Meaning in Language”
Iconicity is the inherent resemblance of form and meaning in language. In this talk, we discuss the iconicity in spoken language, sign language, and gestures that accompany speech. We then present empirical research on what role iconicity plays in how people understand and learn new words in a second language
