DESCRIPTION:Colgate University is situated on the traditional lands of the 
 Haudenosaunee  --  known as the People of the Longhouse\, or the Iroquois 
 Confederacy (Seneca\, Cayuga\, Onondaga\, Oneida\, Mohawk\, and Tuscarora 
 nations).  In the Fall 2022 semester Colgate's Native American Studies Pro
 gram is featuring contemporary expressions of Haudenosaunee life from the 
 perspective of their experiences and expertise. All events are free and op
 en to the public.  For everyone's safety\, masks are required at all indoo
 r events.\n\nPeter B. Jones will provide a pottery demonstration and lectu
 re\, "The Revival of Haudenosaunee Pottery."   Jones\, Onondaga Nation\, B
 eaver Clan member\, is a renowned potter and sculptor who resides on the T
 erritory of the Seneca Nation of Indians.  His pottery\, which is derived 
 from traditional Iroquois construction\, is admired and collected by commu
 nity members\, Native American art collectors\, museums across the country
 \, and internationally. Reminiscent of early Iroquois pottery\, Jones’s 
 art directly reflects the issues that impact the Haudenosaunee.  \n\nLunch
  will be provided.\n\nCo-sponsored by Core Communities and the Department 
 of Sociology and Anthropology.
