Hamilton Movie Theater; Past and Present

The Hamilton Movie Theater has a long and fascinating history. Constructed in 1895 on the site of a previous theater building, the theater has seen numerous owners and missions, eras of independence and as part of different local and national chains, and several extensive renovations. This presentation will trace the history of theater using a wealth of archival images, oral histories, and other sources, and examine the important roles the theater has and continues to serve in our community. It will also be a space for attendees to share their memories of and reflections on the role of the theater in their lives, in hopes of further enriching our archive and understanding of the theater as a community center in Hamilton.

Facilitators: Colgate University Film and Media Studies students, Molly Adelman ’21 and Chloe You ’22, and Mary Simonson, Associate Professor of Film & Media Studies and Director of the Film and Media Studies Program
