DESCRIPTION:Jennifer A. Frey is a professor of philosophy at the University
  of Tulsa\, where she served as the inaugural dean of their Honors College
 . She holds fellowship positions at the Catholic University of America and
  at the interfaith Carver Project. Her John Templeton Foundation grant fun
 ded the study of “Virtue\, Happiness\, and the Meaning of Life\,” and 
 she hosts a podcast on philosophy\, theology\, and literature called Sacre

 ure at Colgate is part of a series of events in celebration of the Kraynak
  Institute for the Study of Freedom and Western Traditions\, honoring Foun
 ding Director Robert Kraynak\, professor of political science\, and recogn
 izing the 20th anniversary of the former Center for Freedom and Western Ci
 vilization. Under the co-directorship of Associate Professor of Art Caroly
 n Guile and George Carleton Jr. Professor of Philosophy David Dudrick\, th
 e Kraynak Institute’s mission is to cultivate intellectual diversity wit
 hin a liberal arts education.\n\nColgate University is broadening the scop
 e of its four major institutes for advanced study to enhance student intel
 lectual engagement with the pressing issues of the day\, to expand the eng
 agement of the University to the wider public\, and to strengthen connecti
 ons with alumni and other scholars. The expansion aligns with the Universi
 ty’s Third-Century Plan\, a long-term roadmap aimed at making Colgate th
 e nation’s finest undergraduate institution.\n\nThe Kraynak Institute wi
 ll uphold the ideal of a classical liberal arts education through a rigoro
 us engagement with political theory\, intellectual history\, and Western t
 raditions. It will also support the study of free speech\, free enterprise
 \, and constitutional democracy\, and continue its public lectures and sum
 mer scholars programs. Additionally\, three new forums will be launched fo
 r faculty\, staff\, and students to foster discussion on the themes of “
 the Past and Future of Democracy\,” “Freedom in Public and Private Lif
 e\,” and “Education for a Good Life and Character Formation for a Good
  Society.”\n\nThis event is sponsored by the Kraynak Institute and co-sp
 onsored by the Office of the President\, the Office of the Provost and Dea
 n of the Faculty\, and University Events.
