Title: Getting on the Wagon: Alcohol, Social Networks, and Rural Labor Market Outcomes

Description: Substance abuse is a growing problem globally with implications for public health and economic productivity. This talk will describe a research project that implemented a multi-week counseling program in western Kenya in 2021, which included both group workshops and household-level therapy among cohabiting spouses that consume alcohol. The results show significant decreases in alcohol consumption as a result of the program, along with positive economic outcomes and increases in community social capital.
