dir. Lee Isaac Chung, 2020, 115 minutes

The sweeping success of Parasite (dir. Bong Joon-ho, 2019) has encouraged global audiences to "overcome the one-inch tall barrier of subtitles," as Bong once proclaimed. Unlike its predecessor’s portrayal of a dystopian capitalist society, Minari presents a heartwarming story of a Korean-American family that moves to a farm in rural Arkansas in search of their own American dream. Amidst the instability and challenges of their new life in rural America, the family discovers their resilience and power through Minari, a robust, strongly-scented vegetable used in Korean cuisine. –Thomas Kim ‘23.
