This discussion-focused session will analyze Asian representation in media. What is the current representation of leads in Asian film industries, as well as in the U.S. film and tv industry? What are considerations that must exist to improve this effort? We aim to highlight the shortcomings of these representations as well as highlighting progress made in recent years.

Presenters: Naheeda Akhtar '25, Mandy Chen '27, Tabby Saour '26, Pallen McArdle '27

Naheeda Akhtar (she/her), class of 2025, is from Gurnee, IL. Naheeda is a Computer Science major with a minor in Creative Writing. Naheeda is on the leadership of the Hiking Club and the Organization of Asian Sisters in Solidarity.

Felicite Tien (she/her), class of 2025, is from Long Island, NY. Felicite is a Neuroscience major and Global Public & Environmental Health minor. Felicite is the Co-President of Organization of Asian Sisters in Solidarity (OASIS), a University orchestra violin member and an ALANA ambassador.

Mandy Chen (she/her), class of 2027, is from Sherrill, NY. Mandy is a Computer Science Major and International Relations Minor. Mandy is currently the Vice President of the Organization of Asian Sisters in Solidarity (OASIS), on the leadership of the Chinese Interest Association (CIA), on Student Government Association, Robotics Club, and Sipsam Dance Group. 

Tabby Saour (she/her), class of 2026 is from Ramsey, NJ. Tabby is a History major and minoring in Japanese and Museum studies. Tabby is the Treasurer of the Organization of Asian Sisters in Solidarity (OASIS), and is a Club Volleyball member. 

Pallen McArdle (she/her), class of 2027, is from Ouray, CO. Pallen is a Peace and Conflict Studies major and Spanish minor. Pallen is the Creative Outreach Coordinator for the Organization of Asian Sisters in Solidarity (OASIS), is on the leadership of the Go+ Club, and a Club Volleyball member.
