The Environmental Studies Brown Bag Series

Speakers: Heather Roller, Professor of History; Kayla Gutheil 24'; Emma Dexter 23'
Professor of History Heather Roller and ENST majors Emma Dexter ’23 and Kayla Gutheil ’24 will give an overview of their recent research, which focused on how people in the Central New York region have experienced and perceived the role of agrichemicals in their lives and landscapes.

This research involved making connections between written sources and a set of 17 oral history interviews conducted with conventional farmers, organic farmers, and people living adjacent to agricultural fields. The interviews highlighted the embeddedness of agrichemicals in rural life histories, as well as the shifting ecological, economic, and political context in which farmers make decisions about agrichemical use.

Hot wraps provided by Hamilton Whole Foods. Vegetarian, vegan, and nut-free options available.
