#ENSTThe Environmental Studies Brown Bag Series
Speaker: Dr. Amy Marcarelli
Dr. Marcarelli is a professor of Biological Sciences and director of the Ecosystem Science Center at Michigan Technologial University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Colgate University in 2000 and her PhD in Ecology from Utah State University in 2006. Together with her graduate and undergraduate students, her research aims to understand the role of small, poorly quantified fluxes or perturbations on ecosystem processes, and to link those ecosystem processes to the underlying structure of microbial, algal, macrophyte and animal communities. In 2015-2020, she received an NSD CAREER award to study the spatial and temporal controls on nitrogen fluxes in riverine ecosystems accross the United States. She is continuing this work as a co-PI of an NSF Research Coordination Network to synthesize understanding of nitrogen fixation from rivers to the open ocean. Dr. Marcarelli is a member of Michigan Tech's Academy of Teaching Excellence and is a past vice-president of the Society for Freshwater Science.
