ENST Brown Bag: Advancing Equity in Energy and Environmental Policy
About this Event
ALANA Cultural Center, 13 Oak Dr, Hamilton, NY 13346, USA
Join Environmental Studies and Economics for a co-hosted guest speaker: Dr. Danae Hernandez-Cortes, assistant professor at Arizona State University, discussing "Causes to Solutions: Advancing Equity in Energy and Environmental Policy."
In response to the global impacts of climate change, policymakers are looking to decrease global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and achieve carbon neutral economies. However, policies aimed at decreasing emissions risk exacerbating racial and income inequities if they are not designed considering the historical burdens that minority and low-income communities have and continue to face. To transition to a just and carbon neutral economy, we need to understand how energy policies interact with existing underlying socioeconomic disparities. This talk will describe some of the potential causes of environmental disparities and examine the role of policy design to address them.
Hot wraps from Hamilton Whole Foods will be provided and will include vegan, gluten-free, and nut-free options. Please bring your own reusable water bottle.
