#GatewaysThroughMusicThe Department of Music presents: Concert by Balla Kouyaté and World Vision.
Virtuoso jeli (musician/storyteller) and performer of the balafon (a gourd-resonated xylophone) Balla Kouyaté and his ensemble present an energetic fusion of traditional West African (Mandé) music with flavors of Afropop and jazz. Kouyaté’s lineage as a jeli goes back some 800 years to Balla Fasséké Kouyaté, jeli of the first Malian emperor, Sunjata Keita.
