Chapel House Concert | Le Ray au Soleil (The Ray of Sunlight)
Ensemble Sonaris, featuring Ruth Berry, Sherezade Panthaki, Wayne Hankin, and Michael Leopold, will perform Le Ray au Soleil (The Ray of Sunlight): Music from Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Baroque. This music will explore the path to and from the nuove musiche ("new music") of the Italian Baroque in a journey of organized sound and words. The solo soprano voice will be accompanied by the lute family of instruments (in particular, the theorbo which is a large bass lute with strings the length of a person), a cello, and a variety of woodwind instruments including recorders, Renaissance tenor flute, 4-holed clay flute, and the musette. The music will be enhanced by the compelling landscape photography of Dan Chien, as we metaphorically experience a 24 hour day from sunrise to sunset, then back to sunrise again--with all of its chiaroscuro--its contrasts of darkness and light.
The Sights of Chiaroscuro will be shown at 6:45pm and 8:00pm and the Sounds of Chiaroscuro will be performed beginning at 7:00pm. A reception with hors d’oeuvres will precede the concert and a dessert reception will follow the performance.
Monday, February 10 at 7:00pm to 8:15pm
