Title: What Would Lorraine Hansberry Say?: A Feminist Vision of Genuine Security and a Culture of Life
“One cannot live with sighted eyes and feeling heart and not know and
read of the miseries which afflict the world.” Lorraine Hansberry
Playwright, social critic, and activist intellectual Lorraine Hansberry was radical and feminist critic of US society of the 1950s and ‘60s. She looked at the US and the world through lenses we now call “intersectionality.” She also advanced a vision in which all peoples of the world could be free. Using Hansberry’s work as one of several conceptual frames, I will discuss the current era of worldwide COVID syndemic, resurgence of right-wing political movements and closing democratic spaces, and feminist resistance and vision of genuine security.
