Honest, forthright, and tactful dialogues are perhaps the best way to see the world outside of ourselves and to overcome our own biases. They require astute listening, careful responses, and regular practice. These conversations are more fruitful when they include people from diverse backgrounds.

The Hamilton Area Anti Racism Coalition (HAARC) seeks to engage in dialogue with student social justice advocates to listen, learn, and become “Stronger Together” by bridging the “Town/Gown” divide between college communities and their broader local communities in pursuit of actions we can take together to create more inclusive and welcoming communities for all.

John Bailey (he/him) is a Quaker and retired engineer. He is one of the founding members of HAARC, started in 2018.John has been involved in many political and social events and actions.

Lesley Chapman (she/her) is the Visual Resources Curator in the Department of Art and Art History at Colgate. She has been active in Intergroup Dialogue (IGD) initiatives at Colgate since 2015 and has been a member of HAARC since 2020.
