Queering the Future: A conversation between Thea Quiray Tagle and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

Thea Quiray Tagle and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto have queer futures on their mind, in the midst of a present world that feels increasingly apocalyptic. Like other queer and trans folks of color, immigrant and diasporic communities, they realize that this is not the end- but is an opportunity for reimagining and working towards ethical futrues in which all of us can survive. Join them in conversation about their shared and individual creative projects, their strategies for survival, and their predictions for the future.

Zulfikar Ali Bhutto is an artist, performer, zombie drag queen, and curator of mixed Pakistani and Lebanese descent. Bhutto explores the politics of queerness, its intersections with Islam, and how it exists in a constant liminal and non-aligned space. He is a 2020 Kala Art Institute fellow, and his ongoing project Tomorrow We Inherit the Earth  has recently manifested at Disjecta Contemporary Art Center (Portland, OR) and at Sanat Initiative (Karachi, Pakistan). https://www.zulfikaralibhuttoart.org/

Thea Quiray Tagle is a Filipinx femme curator, writer, and an Assistant Professor of gender and sexuality studies and ethnic studies at UMass Boston. Her long-term curatorial project, AFTER LIFE, brings together artists and performers whose work helps us think differently about the question: how can speculation, humor, and fantasy fuel larger movements for social change in the midst of ecological and political collapse? http://theaquiraytagle.com/
