This course considers American art and culture during the so-called Gilded Age in the context of evolving economic, social, and aesthetic ideals. Major artistic figures of this era such as Winslow Homer, Thomas Eakins, James A. M. Whistler, Mary Cassatt, John Singer Sargent, and Henry O. Tanner will be discussed.

Presenter: Mary Ann Calo is Professor Emerita of American Art. At Colgate University she offered a specialized course on the Gilded Age and related topics.
