Hiba Ali is a producer of moving images, sounds, garments and words. Born in Karachi, Pakistan, they belong to East African, South Asian and Arab diasporas. Their current work includes a project examining womyn of color’s labor and the architecture of surveillance as it exists within the monopoly of Amazon (corp.) and a series of works that addresses music, cloth and ritual practices that connect East Africa, South Asia and the Arabian peninsula in the Swahili-Indian ocean region. This event marks the inaugural collaboration with Squeaky Wheel Film and Media Art Center (Buffalo, NY).
This series is made possible by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature.
