Title: All the Ways to Say, "Love": Translanguaging in the Multilingual Classroom

Facilitators: Sunisa Nuonsy & Colgate Alumni Keyra Jimenez; class of 2019

Description: How can we use a translanguaging praxis to amplify student voices and expand the depth and range of experiences students are able to share in the classroom? In this workshop, participants will explore an example ELA project based on bell hooks' All About Love and Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God. Using resources such as art-making, group posters, digital journals, Jamboard, Google Slides, and YouTube videos, participants will engage in ways that translanguaging can be leveraged within the classroom to show and teach students the value of the various linguistic as well as personal experiences they bring with them everyday.
