Reunion College session presented by Mike Batza ’63, P’90 and John Cushman ’63, P’89.

About the Presenters:

Mike Batza, formerly CEO of Heritage Properties, Inc. was directly responsible for the develop.m.ent of approximately 2 Million Square Feet of commercial office, industrial, distribution, and mixed use projects. Since the inception of Heritage, the company has developed, managed, and/or acquired over 6 Million Square Feet of portfolio projects.
He was a founding partner of Meridian Healthcare and was responsible for the develop.m.ent of the company’s growth in the Skilled and Extended Care Fields. Mike and his partners sold Meridian Healthcare in November, 1993 to Genesis Health Ventures, a New York stock Exchange health care provider.
In addition to his day-to-day business responsibilities, he is active in community and philanthropic activities, currently serving on the boards of The Kennedy Krieger Institute, Mercy Medical System, St. Mary’s Seminary and University, and The National Aquarium of Baltimore. Mike also has chaired or co-chaired multiple community campaigns, including those for the Tocqueville Society of United Way, Goucher College, The Kennedy krieger Institute, Mercy Medical System, and The Archdioceses of Baltimore.
He formerly served as Trustee of Colgate University, the Gunston School, the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, the Notre Dame Preparatory School, Provident Bank, and the Towson Develop.m.ent Corporation. In addition to his board responsibilities of these institutions, he served as Chair of the Board of KKI and The National Aquarium. He is an Emeritus Trustee of Colgate.
Mike received a B.A in Economics from Colgate University. He and his wife, Patricia, reside in Towson, Maryland. They are the proud parents of three daughters, three sons-in-laws, and six grandchildren. His daughter Maureen ‘91 and Grandson Michael T Railey ‘16 also graduated from Colgate.

John C. Cushman, III, Chairman of Global Transactions for Cushman & Wakefield, is a leader in the commercial real estate industry on a global basis. He has been acknowledged by a variety of media sources as the top office leasing broker in the country. Cushman & Wakefield, Inc. was founded in 1917 by John’s grandfather and great uncle. Cushman & Wakefield celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2017, and Mr. Cushman was Chairman of the Centennial Committee.
Mr. Cushman began his career with Cushman & Wakefield in 1963 in New York City. In 1967, he moved to Los Angeles to open Cushman & Wakefield’s office in Southern California. He and his twin brother, Louis B. Cushman, started their own firm in 1978, Cushman Realty Corporation with operations in 11 US cities, which merged with Cushman & Wakefield in 2001.
Mr. Cushman negotiated the largest office lease in the world – the world headquarters of Merrill Lynch & Company involving 4 million square feet (initial occupancy) at the World Financial Center in New York City. He also completed headquarters relocations for many of america’s largest corporations and institutions, including Burlington Northern, Inc. (Seattle), UBS PaineWebber, Inc. (New York City), Atlantic Richfield Company (Los Angeles), Unocal Corporation (Los Angeles), The Standard Oil Company (Cleveland) and The Boeing Company (Chicago),
Directorships include: Callaway Golf Company. He also serves as Chairman and Director of Zaca Mesa Winery in Santa Barbara County, California. Over the years, Mr. Cushman has served on the boards of 14 public corporations. John C.
