Physics & Astronomy Seminar: Nathan Swift (CU '11)
Nathan Swift (CU'11) is the Project Engineer at Prevent Biometrics and Co-Founder/Chief Operating Officer at Hedgemon. When one thinks of careers in physics, ‘research’ and ‘teaching’ often come to mind. Yet, an education in physics has far broader applications than just, well, fundamental physics. As a recent physics graduate from Colgate, Nathan Swift ’11 has taken a career path often considered “non-traditional” for a physics student, first managing a high-volume warehouse operation, then working for two startups tackling the concussion crisis in sports. Please join Nathan as he discusses how he applied his physics education to professional roles ranging from logistics, to accounting, to market research, and of course, to experimental research and product development. This talk is especially relevant for physics students still unsure of their post-graduation plans.
Nathan holds a master’s degree in Physics Entrepreneurship from Case Western Reserve University and is the Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Hedgemon LLC, developing a hedgehog-inspired shock absorbing liner to improve football helmet safety. In addition, he serves as Project Engineer for Prevent Biometrics, also a startup, developing a head impact monitoring mouth guard.
