Life Long Learning Program- Genes and Fate: What Can Your DNA Say About You?

Rapidly evolving technology has taken us from the promises of the Human Genome Project to a reality in which we find that the more we know about the genome, the more questions we have about how DNA influences our appearance, health, and behavior. We will explore studies that have been made possible by new technologies and discuss how “epigenetics” links environment to inheritance.

Facilitator: Barbara Hoopes is a Professor of Biology at Colgate University and became interested in genetics as a child competing in dog shows. She teaches classes in genetics and molecular biology at Colgate where she does research on the genetics of dogs. In addition, she shows toy poodles as a hobby.
