In 1934, two secret societies, the Skull and Scroll and the Gorgon's Head, resolved to end their rivalry and joined together forming the Konosioni Senior Honor Society. Colgate students at the time chose the name “Konosioni,” which literally means “people of the longhouse” in the living traditions of the Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) Confederacy. The Haudenosaunee Confederacy was created when the Oneida, Mohawk, Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, and Tuscarora nations joined together in a league of “peace and power” and resolved to stop fighting.
Today, the Konosioni Senior Honor Society stands as a peer-selected group of 26 students–representing 13 members from each original society. These individuals have been recognized for their outstanding leadership, dedication to service, and preservation of tradition. And at the heart of their efforts is a deep commitment to community, empathy, growth, and transformation.
We are pleased to welcome 26 new members to the Konosioni Senior Honor Society Class of 2020.
