Reading Lecture: "Economentality: A History of the Future"
Each Spring semester the History Department invites a speaker for the annual Douglas K. Reading Lecture. This semester is "Economentality: A History of the Future" by Timothy Mitchell, William B. Ransford Professor of Middle Eastern, South Asian and African Studies, Columbia University.
Over the last century and half, the emergence of large business corporations gave industrial societies a new relationship to the future. Now that we are living in that future, and paying the costs, can we find a better understanding of how it was built?
