Friday Night Film Series: LONG STORY SHORT

(dir. Natalie Bookchin, 2016, 45 min)

Composed of hundreds of interviews with men and women in homeless shelters, job-training centers, and food banks in California, artist Natalie Bookchin’s 2016 video explores poverty in the United States. Here, interviewees are empowered to become narrators of their own stories, but as these individual stories converge around similar themes, Bookchin’s editing helps to showcase that poverty is not the exception but a systemic reality. Cosponsored by the Women’s Studies program.
