Friday Night Film Series - Under African Skies

(dir. Joe Berlinger, 108 min, 2012)

Screening at 10 pm at Hamilton Theater

Nominated for three Emmys, this critically acclaimed documentary by a Colgate alum traces the evolution and turbulent birth of Paul Simon's landmark album, Graceland, considered by many to be one of the most important albums of all time. Known for its innovative sound and the foundational way it brought together the music of two very different cultures, the album elevated global awareness of South African music and politics, and created a watershed moment in musical fusion.

Produced for the album's 25th anniversary, this film follows Simon on his current tour and travels with him to South Africa to revisit the people, places, and music that first inspired him.

This screening is part of Colgate On Screen: a celebration of Colgate and the inauguration of Brian W. Casey, Colgate’s 17th President.
