Presented by: Haushala Thapa Zimba, founder/director of LVA with Amanda Brown ’15, president, Children and Youth First's USA

At 21, Nepali activist Haushala Thapa Zimba shut down an abusive orphanage, rescued all of its children, and founded the NGO Children and Youth First. Eight years later, her boarding school Life Vision Academy is home to a growing student body of 55 kids and teens. She advocates for the rights of children, women and minorities, and led an innovative earthquake relief campaign that gained international recognition for its attention to underserved villages. She also co-founded the Haushala Women's Cooperative and the Haushala Creatives women's coworking space. In this talk, Haushala will introduce the unusual story behind founding CYF, the formative impact of Life Vision Academy on its inspiring students, and why young adults should embrace their opportunities to make sustainable change.

Haushala will be introduced by Amanda Brown ’15, Children and Youth First's USA President, who developed Life Vision Academy in Thought Into Action in 2014-2015. Since starting to volunteer with CYF in her junior year, Amanda has been joined by over 15 other Colgate students and alumni. Current team members on campus include Charlotte Boyle ’17, Blaise Desnoes ’17, and Jessica Jallen ’18.

Sponsored by the South Asian Cultural Club (SACC), Thought Into Action, and Students for Students.
