Evonne Levy is professor of art history at the University of Toronto. She received her PhD from Princeton University. She works in the areas of Italian Baroque, especially Gianlorenzo Bernini and the Jesuits, the global baroque (especially Latin America) and on the history of art history, with a particular interest on how politics have shaped the discipline. She is the author of Baroque and the political language of formalism (1845-1945) (2015) and of Propaganda and the Jesuit Baroque (2005), and the co-editor of Material Bernini (2016) and Bernini and his Biographies: Critical Essays (2006). She is currently working on the global reception of Heinrich Wölfflin’s famous Principles of Art History (1915).
