A Day in the Life of an Entertainment Lawyer
Reunion College session presented by Bernie Resnick ’83.
Bernie Resnick ’83 has practiced entertainment law for over 30 years. This session will focus on what he does on a daily basis in representing his firm's celebrity clients. These include rap stars, record producers, filmmakers, reality television presenters and contestants, professional athletes, etc. The presentation will also be appropriate for current students and children of alumni who might be interested in becoming a lawyer or going into the entertainment industry.
About the Presenter:
Bernie Resnick ’83 is an entertainment lawyer and musician, practicing in Philadelphia, PA. His law firm has earned more than 100 gold, platinum, multi-platinum, Billboard #1, MTV, Eurovision and/or BDS-Certified Spin awards for deals negotiated and drafted on behalf of the firm’s clients, representing sales of more than 170,000,000 records. The firm clientele ranges across many styles and genres of talent, encompassing recording artists, songwriters, record producers, agents, managers, filmmakers, financiers, internet website designers and operators and professional athletes. Clients of the firm vary from "baby bands" and neophyte filmmakers to gold and platinum-selling recording artists, producers and songwriters, Grammy award winners, members of the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame, record labels, international entertainment businesses and publicly-traded companies. The firm regularly places clients’ music in television programs, movies, sports events, video games, and advertisements.
Bernie is "AV Preeminent" rated by Martindale Hubble and "Super Lawyer" rated 2004-2018 for Entertainment and Sports Law. He is a Member of The Recording Academy’s national Grammy Awards Hall of Fame Committee; and he votes annually for the Grammy Awards. He is Author of multiple chapters in graduate and post-graduate textbooks, law review publications, entertainment industry books and periodicals; as well as the estate planning-related book, ’The Croak List." Bernie is an Adjunct Professor of Law, Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law; a member of the Philadelphia City Council’s Task Force on the Philadelphia Music Industry; and a member of the Board of Directors of The Musical Fund Society of Philadelphia (the oldest philanthropic musical organization in the US). He performs in several symphony orchestras and musical ensembles.
